Medusa is the 2 of Spades in “The Doors of Somlipith” divination card and book set. This is a powerful archetype with deep and layered meaning.

In the guide book for this deck you’ll find the story of Medusa. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a powerful tale of a fair maiden who becomes cursed after being violated by the god Neptune. From then on, all who look at her enchanted visage are transformed to stone. Except for the hero Perseus, who is able to end the suffering of all by approaching the gorgon in a way others had not.

In the playing deck, Courts are any cards 10 and above. When doing a reading and a Court appears, or a whole bunch of Courts, you have a strong message on your hands.

Courts are very different than pips (lower numbered cards) in that they signify people. They are the characters in the story that is unfolding on your table. The cards around them show what is happening to those people.

Lots of Courts can mean lots of people and very little that is actually happening!

An Astrological Clock commands respect. A good one exudes the rich history of the sages and wisdom keepers of the ages. It holds cosmic keys. It is complex like a fine wine.

So i have been searching, you see, for my own clock’s proper place and presentation. Not for onlookers, mind you, but to please the Spirits of the Clock. I simply want my Clock to be happy.

And so i have found peace in the current arrangement: a stack of eclectic books from different traditions, modest spotlights with rotating color, and the Clock does the rest. I have cleaned the wall and made sure that nearby art, etc., feels in agreement.

Centrally placed of course, but out of the way of high traffic. That’s it.

Sun and Moon both find their expression in cards, and give us new ways of playing with and exploring both cards and planetary cycles.

When doing a reading with playing cards and a Queen appears, it signals several things.

First thing, is you know you have a female of great stature. It is female ENERGY though, right? Cards pick up on energy, so it can even sometimes indicate a male or a younger female who is embodying female maturity.

Also, because Queens have such high rank in the deck, they denote someone who is in charge - whether it be in the Physical Realm, Emotional Realm, Spiritual Realm, or Mental Realm. This is depending on the Suit to which they belong.

Each of the 4 Queens also has specific personality traits or tendencies.

Samhain is one of four ancient “cross quarter days.” This means it is a center point between Equinox and Solstice. We acknowledge this day of cosmic beauty on November 1st, but that date was chosen for convenience in adherence to the Gregorian Calendar. This is basically the fake calendar we all live by day-to-day, but if you look at the Astrological Clock, we can see that Samhain lands somewhere between November 3rd and 12th. I believe the ancients had a many days long ritual and feasting celebration to connect with this powerful energy. Samhain is a heightened place of access to the richness of night energy and the spirit world, and the female’s innate connection to this Realm. The card for focus for Samhain is the 5 of Hearts, Fata Morgana.
